DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF A TRANSMISSION SYSTEM FOR AN AGRICULTURAL TRANSPORTATION VEHICLES

Abstract

The transmission system is an important part for transmitting power from engine to the wheels of the vehicle. This function is done by gearbox. The purpose of this design and development is to produce a prototype gearbox system for agricultural transportation vehicles with a 750 kg transport capacity. The preparation of the gearbox system for agricultural transportation vehicles requires complex engineering skills, ranging from designing, material selection, production planning, component manufacturing, measurement, assembly, to prototyping for testing. The gearbox must be capable of producing four forward speeds and one reverse speed on the vehicle. This technology must be mastered well in advance to be able to develop agricultural transportation vehicles. Development of this gearbox system will be done by reverse engineering technology using all facilities in POLMAN Bandung. Through this research, the mastery of technology design and manufacture of gearbox system can be well controlled. Based on the study, it was found that the total gearbox ratio for gear1 was 3.272; gear2 2.143; gears3 1.364; gear4 1 and reverse gear 3,264. Maximum input torque on the gearbox is 58 Nm and it will be transferred to the wheel become 1871 Nm. Keywords: gearbox, agricultural vehicle, reverse engineering
