Abstract

As a vocational education institution, Bandung State Polytechnic for Manufacturing (POLMAN) organized several student activity units with its purposes, e.g. aimed for experiencing the students in social interaction, included applying their skill and knowledge for community around. Based on sense of concern to flood disaster that happened every year in certain places,MSWT-01 (mobile surface water treatment)eksperimental study that had 1m3 capacity is initiated. This case is relevant with vocational field in make the idea into the real thing and implementative. Considering general emergency situation in disaster area, filtration method with its necessary grades is choosen for MSWT-01, instead of using additional chemical solution as previously designed. The results of several trials showed that using the combination of CB (Carbon Block) or GAC (granulate actived carbon) cartridge, active carbon/ silica sand/ manganese zeolit/ mineral granulate filtration media and MF (micro filtration) cartridge is capable to bring out the deserved clean water. MSWT-01 is already implemented in one flood point area of South Bandung on December 2014 with good acceptance from such rural community since the concept is come near to the isolated people, as their alternative aside from coming to the emergency centre on the main road due to access constraints. From a number of suggestions in evaluation, it would be more ideal to provide such clean water in a package that consists of MSWT-01 itself, minimum 1m3 water storage tank, emergency cubicle with water shower and tent service that equipped with disinfection feature for drinking water. With well coordinating and preparation, the student activity units will have more opportunity in social activity contribution with real and tangible benefit.
